My Loco Life~ Lee McClain Review

The Rules of Fashion:

DO design a sexy, one-of-a-kind dress to win a scholarship to the fashion institute in Madrid so you can get out of the foster-care system once and for all. Bonus points if that dress helps you attract the attention of your hunky new neighbor.

DON'T let on you don't know Spanish, even though everyone assumes you're a native speaker.

DO enlist help of hunky neighbor to bring over his sister's Spanish Cosmos for a little private tutorin. You might learn a lot more than a new language.

DON'T let jealous girlfriends, pushy parents, or a quirky comupter game get in the way of making your dreams come true.

Enjoyment: ★★★★
What made this book good was the fact that it was essentially fluff. There was some tension and conflict but it was not much more than a school yard bully. Almost all of it was short and light.

Plot: ★★★☆
The plot was extremely straight forward and if you have read the summary than you will find almost no surprises. However near the end the plot seems a little out there. It almost seems as if Lee wanted a happy ending so bad that Lee made the ending almost unrealistic. It reminded me of the opposite of a Lifetime movie.

Characters: ★★☆
Alicia seems the most realistic character of the whole book. Brianna, who immediately hates Alicia, has to be the least believable character in the story. It eludes to a bad family life but because of the fact that you do not find out what she sees as bad and it is not mentioned in more than passing I was left with the belief that it was only a way for the reader to attempt to feel bad for her. It did not work on me and I think that she was only trying to get sympathy so she lied. Everyone else is somewhere in between those two characters.

Flow: ★★★☆
The first and middle of the book the flow is amazing. Everything is logical and you can see why it happens. At the end of the book however it comes off as surreal and has less flow. Lee McClain on the other hand is very good at showing the mind of a teenage girl and her portrayal of Alicia a practically spot on.

Grade: ★★★☆ This is a really good book.
