Wish: A Novel~ Alexandra Bullen Review

Enjoyment: ★★

Plot: ★★

Characters: ★★

Flow: ★★★★

Overall: ★★

For brokenhearted Olivia Larson nothing can change the fact that her twin sister, Violet, is gone . . . until a mysterious, beautiful gown arrives on her doorstep. The dress doesn't just look magical- it is magical. It has the power to grant her one wish, and the only thing Olivia wants is her sister back.

With Violet again by her side, both girls get a second chance a life. And as the sisters soon discover, they have two more dresses-  and two more wishes left. But magic can't solve everything, and Olivia is forced to confront her ghosts to learn how to laugh, love, and live again. In a breathtaking debut from Alexandra Bullen, Wish asks the question, If you could have anything what would you wish for?

I found the book to be original in the fact that the object that was being wished upon was a dress. Although I am not sure what a guy would be given if he was ever to be chosen for the three wishes. The beginning of the book is very sad and my eyes rolled at Olivia a couple of times because of how cynical she was toward herself. She acts very much like the younger sister worshiping her older sister. A big chunk of the book is about the death of Violet, Olivia's sister, yet the book only tells what happened to her once so you have to keep your eyes peeled for that. The book has a good pace and I had no trouble following along. It also only has one point of view, which helped quite a bit.

I did not really connect with the characters so much with this book but I did not think that it detracted from the reading experience what so ever. The problem for me was that I have never really had anyone really close to me die before, not even a pet, so I could not really get into Olivia's head like some other people might be able to. I ended up just treating it like I was an invisible person who rented space in Olivia's brain for a while.

Wish is a surprisingly unique book because many people have played the wishing card and usually they end up about the same way. While there are some things in common they are so small that I could not really say what off the top of my head. The one thing that I can say is a really important part and while sometimes I find myself giving spoilers even I can hold myself back this once.
