Everyone has rituals. Things that you do that are seen as plain odd to you and the people around you. You just can't stop yourself. Mine happens to be when I pick out books. I have a huge process for it, too.
My process for deciding what book I get depends a lot on where I am.
At the library...
I start with the YA bookshelves beginning with the "A's". Then I slowly go through and depending on the title and/or the cover, I do in fact judge a book by it's cover, I read the summary located somewhere on the book. If I find myself even a little bit interested I shove it into an empty purse that I bring with me. Once that is filled I pick a couple more books that I carry in my hands. If I can carry the books in one hand with my fingers on the bottom and my thumb on top of the stack than I can get more books. It starts to get uncomfortable at three so I usually get three or four extra books.
In a store, where the books are so much more permanent you have to be more picky. That takes time. And patience.
Here's what I do...
I start out the same as what I do at the library I look for books that catch my eye. Then I read the summary. Afterwards if it interests me enough I will sit for bit and read. If by the time the people who came with me want to go and I am still captivated with the book I will pay for it. If I like it but not enough to want to have it forever I will remember the book and page number and on our next visit I will go straight to the book and continue reading it. All for free. I have no idea if this is even legal but I hope it is. Cross my fingers that I do not get in trouble.
Please don't report me, I am but a poor college student. Noooo, not the computer. I realize it is the only thing that I own worth anything. Noooooo.
Right. I was wondering if anyone out there can try to make me feel better by topping this. Make me feel positively normal, please?
Yes, you there, step on up.
P.S. I would also like to acknowledge my very first follower of The Stereotypical Loner. Put your hands together for Steve Finnell. He is also the first person to comment on one of my posts. Once again congratulations and Thank You, Mister Finnell.
